The charm of the wedding ring depends on the gemstone itself and the integration of various designs. Especially the sophisticated setting styles, which have a significant influence on the overall effect of the ring. A perfect wedding ring is inseparable from brilliant setting styles. How much do you know about the following six setting styles?

1. Prong Setting

Use metal claws to hold the gemstone tightly. The metal rarely blocks the gemstone, allowing a lot of light to enter from all directions. Therefore, the center stone looks larger and more sparkling. There are six-claw settings, four-claw settings, and three-claw settings. Under the four-claw shape, you can see more parts of gemstones, but the six-claw settings are safer. This setting makes the gemstone more prominent and look radiant from any angle. But the claws are easy to scrape the hair or clothes, and if the metal is deformed for a long time, it is easy to lead the claws to deform and the gemstone to fall off.

2. Bead Setting

In the edge of an opening in metal, chisel out a few small nails to fix the gemstone. None of the metal claws are visible on the surface. The closely arranged gemstones are nested in the metal tenon groove. With this setting style, the gemstone reflects more light, giving it more twinkling. This setting style is not suitable for large carat gemstones but can perfectly present the brilliance of a small one.

3. Pavé Setting

It features the adjacent gemstones sharing a bead. It derives from the French word for “pavement” and is a type of bead setting. This style sets small gemstones together with minimal visibility of tiny metal beads or prongs holding the stones in place. It highlights the center stone and magnifies the overall brilliance of the ring.

4. Cathedral Setting

The cathedral setting is one of the most classic and elegant setting styles. It features arches of metal to hold the gemstone, and it is perfect for those who prefer a traditional style with a high setting. While the arches can add the extra height of the center stone, it also accentuates and highlights the center stone, offering a unique and eye-catching design.

5. Channel Setting

Firstly, it should carve out the groove on the precious metal bracket and then clamp the gemstones into the groove. It is suitable for setting gemstones of the same caliber. Gemstones are set next to each other in the middle of the metal groove to decorate the whole ring. This setting style protects the gemstones better. In addition, it allows most of the gemstones to be joined together. Therefore, it gives the impression that the gemstone is bigger or more than it really is, making the surface of the accessories appear smooth.

6. Bezel Setting

Use the metal edge to seal gemstones below the waist within the metal holder, then the firmness of the precious metal could prevent gemstones from falling off. It is the most reliable setting style, giving comprehensive protection of gemstones. However, it is not suitable for gemstones with low hardness, which may cause them to crack. There should be no gaps between the edging and the gemstones, so the surface is smooth and flat.
